June’s BRUNCHCLUB was held at The Grounds in Henderson. It is inside the Whoa Studios complex which includes a film studio featuring a live puppet show, a playground and the restaurant. Executive chef Ben Bayly and head chef Mike Shatura are both formerly of fine-dining restaurant the Grove, so the food was of a much higher calibre than you would normally expect at a family-oriented venue. The decor was gorgeous, and it was used in the layout of the large dining area to make it seem much more intimate
With so many great cafes open in Auckland now, they’re taking every opportunity to make a meal more enjoyable. We all liked the stylish crockery and glassware that added something a bit different. Food is so visual, and how it’s presented makes an impact. Plus with the rise of social media, instagrammable food gets diners in the door as they find recommendations online.
The crockery was fantastic – we loved the wooden saucers
Everyone loved their food, both the more traditional dishes such as Eggs Florentine, and the more unusual for a brunch menu like the roast pork pancakes. Here’s a few snaps from Instagram to show how amazing everything looked.
Nice to catch up and meet some new faces today at #Brunchclubnz with @NZBloggers at @TheGroundsNZ. Some blog chat, some life chat. If you’re blogging or instagramming (which is micro-blogging) and want to join a group of like-minded peeps going through the same stuff, check out @NZBloggers on Facebook. Today I had the poached salmon and finished with a mini hokey pokey ice cream. Just little portions today so for once I didn’t overeat. 😂😂😂 Major food envy at @onceuponanegg’s roast pork pancakes though! 😍😍😍
After our meals, a lot of us headed to the ice cream counter for a bite of dessert. I didn’t try it, but I’ve heard rave reviews from those who did get one to finish off the meal.
